MMOs and sarcasm
If I were to give up sarcasm, that would leave interpretive dance as my only means of communication.
This pretty much sums up Meta Gamer. If you don’t like/understand/accept sarcasm, I suggest finding your information elsewhere. And there is information here, its just littered with sarcasm. If you play and of the MMOs listed on the front page, then you might enjoy this site. If you don’t, you still might enjoy some of it. Where Meta Gamer covers game features, it tries to do so in a way that looks across the MMO landscape. Is your game adding a new system? Meta Gamer will be looking to see what others are up to. Is a system completely broken? Maybe other MMOs might have a better way.
All disclaimers are inspired by real criticisms of game journalism, Meta Gamer, other blogs and social media stupidity.
- Articles on Meta Gamer are mostly written by people who pay for their own games. No one is bribing us with freebies.
- That being said, if someone wants to give us freebies, go for it. It will not, however, buy you more than a ‘oooh look someone gave me this’ in the way of publicity. If the writer thinks its rubbish, they will say so. Probably with lots of sarcasm.
- Points 1 and 2 make it look like there are lots of writers. This is an aspiration. If you want to write for Meta Gamer (a one off, when the mood takes you, semi regularly or regularly) then firstname.lastname@example.org. Theres no money in it, as the site doesn’t make any. But its a great way to let of some steam. Lapsed bloggers who want to write occasionally – I mean you.
- Meta Gamer totally allows sarcasm in comment. However, theres a difference between sarcasm and being an asshat. Asshat comments will be removed. Generally avoid sexism, racism and other forms of bigotry. If you’re not sure its obvious, mark your sarcastic comments with /sarcasm on and off. If you’re not sure don’t worry – the site admin will be.
